Kentucky Title Good For Yankees

April 3, 2012

We're going to switch hats here, but Kentucky's 67-59 victory over Kansas in the national championship game on Monday is good news for fans of the New York Yankees.

The last six times the Bluebloods of college basketball won a championship the Yankees went on to win the World Series in the same season.

Here is the list:

1949 -- Beat Brooklyn, 4-1
1951 -- Beat NY Giants, 4-2
1958 -- Beat Milwaukee, 4-3
1978 -- Beat Los Angeles, 4-2
1996 -- Beat Atlanta, 4-2
1998 -- Beat San Diego, 4-0
2012 -- ???

The only time the Yankees did not win a World Series in a year when Kentucky won a national championship was 1948, when Adolph Rupp led the Wildcats to their first title.
