2013 Winter Classic

February 9, 2012

Wow!

Fresh off an incredible Winter Classic in Philadelphia and an amazing celebration of some of the games greats in Ottawa at the 2012 NHL All Star game, the NHL announced that the Detroit Red Wings will play host to the Toronto Maple Leafs at the 2013 NHL Winter Classic presented by Bridgestone.

The game has the potential to be the leagues biggest and best yet.  Two storied Original Six franchises facing off at Michigan Stadium in front of close to 120,000 fans.

The Ilitch family has promised something for everyone, and while the "Big Game" will be played in the "Big House" in Ann Arbor, the people and city of Detroit will not be left out.  It was also announced that Comerica Park in downtown Detroit will have a sheet that will host collegiate, AHL, OHL, Alumni, and youth hockey games.  These events are expected to bring in hundreds of thousands of people to a city that desperately needs the tourism and a financial shot in the arm.

While we let all of this digest, here is one more thing we have to look forward to as the game approaches next fall...Remember how exciting and entertaining HBO's 24/7 was with the passionate views and personalities of New York Rangers Head Coach John Tortorella and Philadelphia Flyers Bench Boss Peter Laviolette?  How amazing will that series be with the addition of two of the games greatest minds and most fierce competitors in Leafs President Brian Burke and Wings Coach Mike Babcock?
