The OFF-Season

June 26, 2012

Before you spend another dime on your son or daughter's rapidly filling summer camp schedule, read this.

It is the end of June, which means families in the South are well into their summer and those up North are wrapping up the school year and about to begin their extended vacation. Either way, by now most parents have secured their child's place in a camp or series of camps that will fill those long, hot, days.

Mike Boyle wrote, and later published, his thoughts regarding a summer training program for 9-year-olds a couple of years back in response to a parent's inquiry. Since then, he has been kind enough to share these insights with the rest of the world.  It is up to you as a parent to choose whether you want to follow the advice of one of sports' greatest strength and conditioning experts. However, if you have a young athlete, the link at the top is worth two minutes of your time to read and five minutes of thought before taking out the checkbook again this summer.  If you have seen the content or heard Mike present it before, this time of year in particular, it is well worth a quick reminder and review!
