Owen Kenny

NYC Ironman

Born down in St. Vincents Hospital in the Village, the NYC Ironman will bring me to the Finish Line on the West Side exactly to the day 44 years later. 24 Weeks of highly scheduled training. Hoping the Race is only about 12 hours, but Running the good 44 years is of-course the Real Race

Century Ride! Week 18

June 25, 2012

So I log the necssary 100 Mile Ride this weekend and follow it up with a 6 mile Transition Run.  Long Hot tough day.  The Ride has the GPS capture 10,000 feet of elevation gain in this big loop in the Hills of the North Shore of Long Island.  Ride took me 6 Hr. 18 Minutes, have done this exact Ride twice in the Fall both times in 6 Hours, the 18 minutes I blame on heat and weak motivation! Damn!  All in all it was a good ride, as a buddy even joined me for the 1st Hour, and then even picked up another dude later on for about 30 minutes.   Followed my nutrition plan to a TEE and felt great energy wise.

Follow it up on Sunday with a easy 16 mile run in 2 hours 32 minutes, and then a 2.25 mile open water swim as my wife and her friend follow me along in our 2 person Kayak, giving me a break from keeping an eye out for boats... :)    Not sure if get in trouble from my wife if she reads this by mentioning it isn't the worst thing to keep bringing my head up for air and seeing 2 Bikinis on every breath. LOL -well technically I alternate breathing sides. (I guess I'll find out the answer to that "in trouble" question).

Completed good workouts all week, never tiring, and really hitting up a Hard Heart Rate Spin on Tuesday.  I've been able to stick strictly to schedule the whole time, never working out on Monday or Friday.  Total workout time of Swim, Bike, Run for the week was 16 Hours 36 Minutes.  Which doesn't include the fact that I felt good enough during the week to throw in some weights at the Gym and some Yoga on Friday night.  3 Days with the Pedals, 2 Long Swims and total 35.5 Miles Running.

I have been avoiding coming up with a goal Finish "Time".  And even more so to verbalize it.  After being satisfied with the Florida Ironman time of 11:26, I struggle to see what I really want or care about time wise, and need another week or so to decide.  #Slacker

Another Big week next week and will look to hit 40 Miles Running amongst the rest.
