Owen Kenny

NYC Ironman

Born down in St. Vincents Hospital in the Village, the NYC Ironman will bring me to the Finish Line on the West Side exactly to the day 44 years later. 24 Weeks of highly scheduled training. Hoping the Race is only about 12 hours, but Running the good 44 years is of-course the Real Race

Week 14 - Mem Day Wknd - Humid!

May 29, 2012

With the Rev3 Quassy 70.3 Race (1/2 Ironman Distance) a week away, cut short the plan of the week a bit to 12 Hours 20 Minutes, - which included total of 26.1 Miles Running. Saturday was a 65 Mile Ride followed with a 4 mile Transition Run.  The day was hot and HUMID, so much so that on my 4 Mile Transition Run, really had a difficult time keeping my Heart Rate under 150 despite not pushing too hard on the Run. For this simple Transition Run, Heart Rate was well in the 160s for majority of the Run.  Figure it was a result of the core temperature just not staying cool enough.   Following day was a 1.5 Mile Swim followed with a 9 Mile Run, with the Run a bit faster than day before, the heart rate average was back in the 140s.

Later ended up at the "World Famous" Sunset Beach Bar on Shelter Island to destroy most of what I just built up throughout the weekend.  Easy come easy go I guess..

Note. My Black Bike was Yellow by the end of my 65 Mile Ride, Pollen Pollen everywhere.

Looking forward to the Rev3 Quassy 70.3 Race next week !   (Bringing a buddy for his 1st half Ironman distance Race :)
