Owen Kenny

NYC Ironman

Born down in St. Vincents Hospital in the Village, the NYC Ironman will bring me to the Finish Line on the West Side exactly to the day 44 years later. 24 Weeks of highly scheduled training. Hoping the Race is only about 12 hours, but Running the good 44 years is of-course the Real Race

Week 9

April 23, 2012

Well my Broken Chain from prior week was part of a bigger picture.  The front derailler bracket was bent, and on my bike it is integrated into the Carbon Fiber, had to send the frame to California for repair or replacement.  "Sunrise Tri" was nice enough to loan me a Tri Aluminum Bike in the meantime.  So off I went on for my 70 mile ride Saturday a little heavier and a bit of a bigger Crank, Lots of hills here on North Shore Long Island (My 70 Mile ride - Total Elevation 8,500 feet). Surprising the bigger Crank wasn't so bad, "only" almost killed me on a couple of STEEP uphills.  Felt great throughout  and even blew past my planned Deli water refill. Ran out of liquid at mile 62, but enjoyed the nonstop of the 70 Miles.

Total Time logged for the week was 12 Hours 20 minutes.  This included 26 Miles of Running, a 61 Minute & 50 Min Swim.  Plus Hard Heart Rate Tuesday 75 Minute Spin & easy 60 Minute Spin Wednesday.  Feeling good and strong (well before the 3 Sunday afternoon Margharetas anyway:), taking off Monday and Friday every week.  Legs not feeling too heavy, but still next week is a light week for Recovery, as getting close to the LONG rides.....
