Today we had our usual pregame skate and then the guys who are not playing tonight stayed after for some extra conditioning. Our assistant coaches have done a good job of mixing in speed days and conditioning days after practice. Today we did a little bit of both.
1. Goalie drill - Two players behind the goal line (one on either side of the net) pass to each other then out to the high slot. The shooter in the high slot has to shoot five hole and the goalie has to control his rebounds. Two additional players are on either side of the net playing out any rebound that come out.
2. Speed/ scoring drill - 4 piles of pucks (1 pile on each inside hash mark and 1 pile on each goal line 5 feet from each net) Player starts in the high slot and has to get one puck from each pile and score. He has to stop at each pile.
3. Speed and Conditioning - 10 x 1 lap FULL SPEED Rest interval is 1.5 lap slow.
I wanted to write these down to give coaches and players a few ideas of how they can get a little extra work after practice. Its easy to fall into the same routine and variation is a good thing.
