When athletes ( in any sport) go through a slump it is one of the hardest things to reverse. Due to the fact that a slump is 95% mental, athletes do some very unusual things to try to get themselves out of it.
Recently Olli Jokinen of the Calgary flames was in a big slump and he need something very different to get out of it. He remembered Wayne Gretzky, when he coached him in Phoenix, telling him that he needed to get a little greasy and he should try having a cheeseburger.
Olli took that advice and had a big mac for his pre-game meal and broke out of his slump in a big way. 5 goals and 3 assist during this five game win streak placing him ahead of Jerome Iginla as Calgary's leading scorer.
I cannot sit here and advocate eating a big mac before every game but in some instances, under extreme circumstances, an athlete just has to relax not think about the game and do whatever it takes to put a smile on his face. (even if it means eating a greasy cheeseburger)
A happy athlete, is a good athlete.
